Anyone willing to lend me money for doujinshi I don't need, knowing that although I am employed now, with my poor employment record and bad money management skills I probably not good for the money at all? Hey, Rosh Hashanah is coming up! Nevermind that it's not a gift-giving holiday and I'm not Jewish...

I can do that for you, if you'd be willing to do something for me - namely, could you use your ebay account to buy some doujinshi for me? I'm oddly reluctant to get an ebay account, just because I'd be so damn tempted to buy things. -_-

I can do that. The main problem will be paying for it. I pay for most things with PayPal, because most of the doujinshi is from Japan so they won't accept checks or money orders (rarely you'll find a company that will accept International money orders). I could give you my eBay password and account so you can pay for things, but that might give you the same temptation to buy things. :P (I wouldn't care if you used my account. You could only improve my rating.)

The stuff I had in mind is actually all from one seller in the US, so you could just let them know I'd be sending them a money order - didn't we do that once before, for the Integra cosplay outfit?
A Guy Named Gooaguynamedgoo on September 22nd, 2005 04:46 pm (UTC)
Yeah, but the stuff I was going to order is from Japan. It doesn't matter. I just won't get it/shop in the 'States and you can use my account.

Actually, this person will accept cashier's checks, money orders, or US cash. Huh.
gisho on September 22nd, 2005 04:51 pm (UTC)
I was figuring for your stuff, I could send you the money and then you'd use your own PayPal account to pass it on, but if they take money orders I could send it right to them.
A Guy Named Gooaguynamedgoo on September 22nd, 2005 04:52 pm (UTC)
Yeah, my problem with PayPal is I can't use it at all because of that pesky $400 in debt thing. ^_^; I'm paying it off, slowly, but that's why I can't waste my own paycheck for a little while. I need another job. ~_~ One for living money and one for play money.
gisho on September 22nd, 2005 04:57 pm (UTC)
Ah, yes, that. I'd forgotten about that. -_- Well, I wish you luck with the job.

I remember at this point that I do technically have a PayPal account, it's just not a verified one. So I might be able to use it to send money to a store in Japan, but I'm not sure. Worth a try, and if it doesn't work there's always the money order.

I forgot how to verify your PayPal account, but it turned out it was something ridiculously easy. Check their help section and it will tell you how to do it. I think you just had to click a link somewhere that said "yeah, this is where I live."
gisho on September 22nd, 2005 05:07 pm (UTC)
As far as I can tell, you can't do it without adding a bank account.
A Guy Named Gooaguynamedgoo on September 22nd, 2005 04:57 pm (UTC)
What are the links to the stuff you want? And if they have a buy it now option, want me to use that or bid? (Bidding is usually a bit cheaper, but takes a bit longer and you risk losing it. Once you bid, you can't go back and select buy it now.)
A Guy Named Gooaguynamedgoo on September 22nd, 2005 05:07 pm (UTC)
That's actually all from the same store I'm ordering from, so we can get the bulk shipping discount! ^_^ (I'm getting two FMA ones and their soft yaoi Toshiki x Kazuki one. I'm waffling on getting a Hellsing one, but I don't think they have the one I have wanted for a while.) Bidding now. I'll forward all of the confirmation e-mails and invoices to you (you'll need them if you're going to pay with a money order) and put a note to the seller that the payment will be coming from you, unless you work out the PayPal thing or want to try it without the verification. I'll e-mail you my eBay name and password in that case.
gisho on September 22nd, 2005 05:09 pm (UTC)
What a coincidence! ^_^ (They seem to be a big doujinshi seller.) Since they seem to be in the US, it'd be simplest for me to send them a money order, which I can do tomorrow. As long as they know it's to two adresses, which probably just means the bulk shiping discount for each.

(I was tempted by the Toshiki x Kazuki, in fact, but decided I didn't like the art style. Good thing I decided that, I guess, we would have had to arm-wrestle for it. Or something.)
A Guy Named Gooaguynamedgoo on September 22nd, 2005 05:12 pm (UTC)
(I just happen to like Toshiki x Kazuki a lot more than Juubei x Kazuki. No offense to the canon yaoi intended. ^_^)

I'll place those bids now and comment on each one mentioning all the payments are coming from you. E-mail me your address so I can note which ones are to be sent to you and which ones to me, and that we understand that this means we will need to pay two separate shipping charges.
A Guy Named Gooaguynamedgoo on September 22nd, 2005 05:14 pm (UTC)
And ick, I just noticed that two of mine don't have buy it now options, and they close in two days. ~_~ Well, you have seven days to respond, so either you can hold off on paying for mine until those close, pay for them when the bidding closes and make two payments, or hold off on all of them.
gisho on September 23rd, 2005 10:00 am (UTC)
Okay, given the seven days, I'll wait and respond when you auction has closed.
