I Hate Being in Maine

If Question 1 goes through in tonight's election (note to self: VOTE, DAMMIT), I am seriously moving out of state. I kind of have to: if Question 1 goes through, then it will be legal to discriminate against people on the basis of sexual orientation and transgender status.

Okay, long story short: Governor Baldacci, in the only move that I have liked of his since the ass got into office, got a bill passed through state legislature that said that sexual orientation and transgender status are put with sex, race, and handicap under things that are protected by anti-descrimination laws. The far right has been bitching since, and finally got a referendum to get it repealed, but only if people vote Yes on Question One.

What is pissing me off is everywhere I look today there are signs that say "YES on Question 1: Preserve Marriage, Protect Maine". Question 1 has nothing to do with marriage. Maine never allowed for gay marriage. All Question 1 is is whether or not homosexuals should be protected from descrimination in jobs, housing, and financial services.

I have only seen three "No on Question 1" signs (they are green, the color of the Maine Against Descrimination activist roup, and they say "Please Vote No on Question 1". That's it.) but I have seen at least two dozen of the horrible "Yes on Question 1" signs on Broadway alone (admittedly, there are a lot of churches on Broadway). The whole thing is fucking stupid.

I don't think anyone on my flist who lives in Maine is over 18, but if they are, vote tonight. And tell everyone you know who is old enough to vote No on Question 1.

EDIT: Just voted, as did my grandmother, my mother, my father, and my brother. I don't know what the 'rents and bro voted, nor am I willing to ask (because I doubt I could face them if any of them voted yes), but my grandmother voted no and made a point of telling me so.
